Why Take this Program?

This program is for anyone that is interested in learning how business is run and exploring the major global issues of our time. In term one, Students will learn the inner workings of communist and capitalist economies and gain insight through apprentice-style competitions in the marketplaces of Beijing, Seoul, and Tokyo. Fast-paced and filled with the energy of real estate acquisition, business development, and investment strategies, this program will show students the real world of assessing risk-and-reward and serious social trade-offs. Term two explores how the world is handling issues like global warming, immigration, terrorism, globalization, and the uses of artificial intelligence while immersed in eastern cultures. Our goal is to look behind the myths and fake-news that have polarized world politics to arrive at a deeper understanding of paradoxes between government policies and actual practices.

What People Are Saying

I experienced so much. I travelled, met new people and learned about the world. It was absolutely surreal to have a lesson at the Forbidden City in Beijing and to ride in a Tuk Tuk to get to class. School is so much more than the four walls of a classroom; you have to go beyond, see the world and experience your learning firsthand. That is what education is. I am so grateful for these moments. I know I have grown so much from this experience and I will carry this knowledge of the world with me for the rest of my life.

You Have to Go Beyond

I experienced so much in just three months. I travelled to six countries, met new people and learned about the world. It was absolutely surreal to have a World Issues lesson at the Forbidden City in Beijing and to ride in a Tuk Tuk to get to class. School is so much more than the four walls of a classroom; you have to go beyond, see the world and experience your learning firsthand. That is what education is. I am so grateful for these moments. I know I have grown so much from this experience and I will carry this knowledge of the world with me for the rest of my life.

Life Changing

The first day I spent on MEI was in Beijing and was probably the most exciting day of my life… but then so was the next day, and the next day, and every single day until the very end. Why? It’s the only time I was encouraged to actually look away from my teachers and study the world surrounding me.

I was Infatuated with Learning

I never thought that a beach in Vietnam, or the temples of Angkor could be a lecture spot. MEI showed me that it doesn’t take a desk and chair to have the ability to learn something new. Being exposed first hand to the way and places others live makes you appreciate not only how lucky you are, but how much of a difference your life can make in the world. Never in my life did I think I would enjoy going to school or voicing my opinions, but within a week of my trip, I was infatuated with learning. MEI Academy made me who I am now and I am eternally grateful for every experience, memory and ounce of happiness this trip and the people I’ve met along the way have given me!

Every Morning I Wake Up with a Zest for Life

Every morning I wake up with a zest for life because I know each day will bring something incredible. This trip has completely redefined the way I feel about education. I’ve learned more in the last three months than I have in the previous five years. Academically, for me, it was fascinating to study Economics in Asia. I never would have imagined that I’d have teachers who ride in a tuk-tuk with you at 4 AM so we can see a sunrise at Angkor Wat. MEI is school in the most epic way possible.
